New Zealand’s Active Investor Plus (AIP) Visa offers international investors an efficient pathway to gain permanent residency in one of the world's most desirable countries.

An investment of ~US$3m (NZ$5m) into Altered Capital’s Venture Fund II qualifies applicants from any country for an AIP Visa.

Why New Zealand?

By investing in New Zealand, the AIP Visa provides investors and their families with complete access to a prosperous nation that is investor-friendly and peaceful with a stable democracy and high standard of living. The program offers two pathways to residence: investing NZ$5 million in growth assets for three years, or NZ$10 million across a balanced portfolio for five years.

Highlight metrics showcasing NZ's livability

New Zealand’s quality of life markers rank highly on global indices. It specifically excels in measures of safety, social cohesion, peace, liberty, rule of law, transparency to corruption, and life satisfaction. Additionally, the country has well-performing healthcare and education systems – both of which are free for permanent residents.

A key attraction for international investors is the Government’s focus on driving economic growth and track record of attracting foreign capital. The AIP Visa is its latest initiative to this end. New Zealand has also structured its tax framework to incentivise foreign investment: capital gains are not taxed, comprehensive double taxation agreements exist with 41 countries, and new migrants receive a four-year tax exemption on foreign income upon arrival.

Why the AIP Visa?

The AIP program has been recently revised to simplify the process for intelligent capital and talent to gain access to New Zealand. Applicants can choose between two investment categories to align with their strategies and risk appetites.

Growth Category: NZ$5 million (~US$3 million) deployed for three years into approved venture capital, private equity, other managed funds, and/or direct business investments. Applicants must spend at least 21 days in New Zealand over the three-year investment period.

Balanced Category: NZ$10 million (~US$6 million) invested for five years across Growth Category investments, listed equities, bonds, and qualifying property developments. Applicants must spend at least 105 days in New Zealand over the five-year investment period, reducible through additional Growth Category allocations.

Permanent residency follows successful completion of investment requirements, with citizenship granted after five years of continuous residency.

Key features of the AIP Visa and process are:

  • Full family inclusion (partners and dependents aged 24 and under)

  • Unrestricted work and business rights

  • No English language requirements

  • Four-year foreign income tax exemption

  • No capital gains tax on growth investments

  • No inheritance or estate taxes

  • 80% of applications are approved within 6.5 weeks
